Division/Department: Operations/Engineering
Position Overview
The Control Systems Engineer (CSE) plays a critical role in the execution of industrial automation SCADA projects by supporting the Senior Controls Engineer (SCE) in system design and leading all field-based implementation activities. The CSE’s primary responsibilities include site commissioning, hardware and software testing, system troubleshooting, and post-deployment support such as preventative maintenance. In addition to field execution, the CSE contributes to control system development as a hands-on technical resource, ensuring reliable deployment and operational integrity. This role provides a structured pathway for career growth, equipping the engineer with the practical experience and technical knowledge necessary for future advancement into senior engineering positions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Senior Controls Engineer in the design and development of PLC, SCADA, and HMI solutions.
- Support system configuration activities including virtual machines, SCADA servers, and control networks.
- Conduct Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) with internal teams and clients.
- Perform site commissioning efforts including instrumentation checkout, loop testing, and startup support.
- Provide troubleshooting, maintenance, and technical support for deployed systems.
- Perform system updates, backups, and support change management procedures post-deployment.
- Interpret and apply electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control loop drawings in the field.
- Collaborate with project teams to resolve field issues and document revisions or improvements.
- Ensure site safety compliance and adherence to startup protocols during field activities.
- Network & Server Configuration: Configure and install virtual servers, clients, and network equipment in alignment with project specifications.
- VFD Troubleshooting: Configure and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) using electrical ladder schematics.
- Field Deployment & Commissioning: Perform onsite startup, commissioning, and testing of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Additional Responsibilities: Execute other duties as required.

Key Industries
ATSI’s primarily performs system integration services in the following industries:
Water/Wastewater
This role supports automation solutions in water treatment, distribution, and wastewater facilities. Familiarity with municipal infrastructure, SCADA telemetry systems, pump control, and regulatory reporting is essential. Engineers must understand EPA compliance standards and work frequently with city agencies, utility operators, and contractors.
Food & Beverage
This role supports automation systems in food and beverage processing plants. Emphasis is placed on sanitary design, CIP/SIP operations, batch processing, traceability, and integration with MES/ERP systems. Knowledge of FDA, USDA, and FSMA regulations is highly desirable, along with experience in maintaining production continuity and system validation practices.
